Description:

Our purpose is to recognize and unify the therapeutic recreation profession in the Province of Ontario by initiating, discussing, exchanging and promoting ideas and issues which affect the profession.

Mission/Aims:

Recognizing that leisure is an integral part of every individual's life, "Therapeutic Recreation Ontario", as an acknowledged professional organization, is committed to representing the therapeutic recreation profession in the Province of Ontario. "Therapeutic Recreation Ontario" exists to direct and advance the profession in order to ensure quality professional services and to protect the rights of consumers receiving those services. We are committed to unifying the therapeutic recreation profession across diverse delivery settings.

Verification Criteria:

Registration in TRO.

Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a qualified academic institution.

Degree in a Health related discipline in combination with a post degree diploma in Therapeutic Recreation.

College diploma in Therapeutic Recreation

Additional Information:

While Therapeutic Recreation Ontario was incorporated in 1999, the organization existed as an umbrella organization within Parks and Recreation Ontario or the Ontario Recreation Society since 1979. Our members work with many different clients in many different settings including: long term care, rehabilitation, day programs, programs for individuals with developmental delays, children and adults with physical disabilities, mental health etc.
