Description:

ANZPA was first established in 1980. It now has about 90 Ordinary and Distinguished members who are Certificated Psychodramatist, Sociodramatists, Sociometrists or Role-Trainers. 25 of these members are further certificated as Trainer, Educator and Practitioners (TEPs) or Educator Practitioners. Another 200 are Associate, trainee members mainly in Australia or New Zealand, with some in Japan, USA, UK and Europe. It is an incorporated non-profit association in South Australia and in New Zealand. An executive is elected from certificated members every two years.

A Board of Examiners is appointed by the executive.

Mission/Aims:

To promote spontaneity in the Members of the Association and through them the spontaneity, creativity and co-creation of progressive relationships that strengthen the health and well-being of society in Australia and New Zealand and in our relationships with those in other countries.

To establish and maintain a professional association of those qualified in the areas of psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry and role training.

To establish and maintain adequate standards for psychodramatists, sociodramatists, sociometrists or role trainers through a Board of Examiners.

To develop means for certifying individuals as psychodramatists, sociodramatists, sociometrists or role trainers through a Board of Examiners.

To develop means for accrediting institutes for training in psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry or role training.

To promote the establishment and reputation of psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry and role training in Australia and New Zealand by:

Encouraging research, evaluation and dissemination of information by individuals and training institutes, or through publication of journals and other relevant publications;

Establishing and monitoring a code of ethics for members of the Association practising psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry or role training;

Working for recognition of psychodrama, sociodrama, sociometry and role training by other professional bodies and relevant private and government agencies;

Establishing liaison with similar groups and societies overseas.

Principal Activities:

Much of the life of the Association is in the Regions established in various cities. Here members of the association congregate in a variety of ways. Professional activities, collaborative activities, social and outreach or marketing activities. ANZPA publishes an annual Journal as well as a regular Bulletin for members. Each year some members conduct training and travel to conferences in other countries throughout the world.

Amongst other activities, the Association has established Training Institutes throughout Australia and New Zealand. Thorough training and supervision and rigorous assessment and certification procedures lead to a high level of practitioner competence.

A conference is held in a different regional centre each year where many members come together to collaborate in a range of ways to progress themselves, their practice and their learning.

Practitioner certification as Psychodramatist, Sociodramatist, Sociometrist, Role Trainer.
Practitioner certificate for a Trainer Educator and Practitioner - a person accredited to train others in these methods.
