Verification Criteria: If the practitioner has the NZAPH letters in their advertising. This would imply that this professional has passed the NZAPH examination.
To be sure, you can check this by asking to see their current annual practice certificate and/or contact the membership secretary to check.
Additional Information: The New Zealand Hypnotherapy profession wishes to retain its autonomy and remain self-regulated. A lot of time and effort has gone into making this a reality through the establishment of the New Zealand Hypnotherapy Federation (NZHF) and the Hypnotherapy Industry Advisory Group (HIAG).
Revision has been done to the (NZQA) New Zealand Qualifications Authority Unit Standards that make up the National Diploma of Hypnotherapy. These new Unit Standards are now on the Framework.
The Hypnotherapy profession is also in the process of setting up an independent assessment organisation where Hypnotherapy students/practitioners can have their knowledge assessed against those standards. This will provide assessment services for students and hypnotherapists who want the Hypnotherapy Diploma.
From 2008, the minimum requirement to practice Hypnotherapy in New Zealand will be the NZQA Hypnotherapy Diploma (for anyone not already registered with the NZHRB at that time).
