Description:

The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies is a professional, interdisciplinary organization which is concerned with the application of behavioral and cognitive sciences to understanding human behavior, developing interventions to enhance the human condition, and promoting the appropriate utilization of these interventions.

Mission/Aims:

1. Encouraging the development of the conceptual and scientific basis of the behavioral therapies as an empirical approach to applied problems;
2. Facilitating the appropriate utilization and growth of behavior therapy as a professional activity;
3. Serving as a resource and information center for matters related to behavior therapy.

Principal Activities:

Promotes public awareness of behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy.
Operates public service programs like ABCT's Clinical Directory & Referral Service, which helps individuals locate behavior therapists in their vicinity.
Publishes a series of Fact Sheets for the general public, plus two scholarly journals, Behavior Therapy and Cognitive and Behavioral Practice, as well as the thought-provoking newsletter, the Behavior Therapist, and informative directories and pamphlets.
Organizes an Annual Convention featuring state-of-the-art scientific research that attracts approximately 3,000 attendees as well as smaller, more specialized educational programs.
Encourages students to increase their knowledge of the behavioral therapies by offering low priced student memberships.
Offers Special Interest Groups that focus on individual specialties such as Addictive Behavior, Behavioral Medicine and Child and School-Related SIGs.
