Description: The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapists, represents groups of Manipulative Therapists around the world, who have completed stringent post-registration/post-graduation specialisation programs in the field of neuro-musculo-skeletal disorders. It is a Federation that sets Educational and Clinical Standards in this area of Physical Therapy. IFOMT actively encourages improved patient management by its Standards Document and by acitvely endorsing Evidence Based Practise. IFOMT is a subgroup of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy, and was formed in 1974.
Mission/Aims: World-wide promotion of excellence and unity in clinical and academic standards for manual/musculoskeletal physiotherapists.
Principal Activities: Monitoring standards of Manual Therapy internationally, 4 yearly conference, biennial newsletter.
Training/Licensing/Certification: Groups from representative countries submit curriculums for evaluation by the Standards Committee as a pathway to membership.
Affiliations: Associations to which we are a member: World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT)
Verification Criteria: When seeing a manipulative / manual therapist they should ask to see post graduate qualifications relevant to this area or other evidence of their training e.g. Diploma, Masters degree.
