Description: The American Society of Bariatric Physicians is an international association of physicians and allied health care professionals with special interest and experience in the comprehensive treatment of overweight, obesity and related disorders. Our purpose is to establish and maintain practice guidelines, and provide education to our members, the health care industry and the public.
Mission/Aims: To advance and support the physicians role in treating their overweight patients.
Principal Activities: Continuing education programs, peer-reviewed journal (quarterly) and bi-monthly newsletter, plus reference books, patient education materials, office forms.

Training/Licensing/Certification: Spring: regional obesity course, board review course, new practitioners seminar. Fall: annual obesity and associated conditions symposium (physicians program and assistants program), basic bariatric course, practice improvement/productivity seminar. ASBP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to offer continuing education credit for physicians.
