Description: AFAANZ is the premier body representing the interests of accounting and finance academics and other persons interested in accounting and finance education and research in Australia and New Zealand.
Mission/Aims: To provide education programs and continuing professional development programs for the benefit of both members and non-members.
To prescribe, adopt, test and recognise by way of diploma, designation or otherwise standards and classifications of attainment and qualifications in accounting and finance and related disciplines.
To promote to the public, whether by way of publication or otherwise, information on accounting and finance and related disciplines and other subjects of interest or value to accountants, finance and related disciplines by lectures, discussions, books, journals and correspondence and other publications with the public and other bodies and individuals or otherwise.
To encourage the study of accounting, finance and related disciplines within the general public, and, for that purpose to donate and to encourage the donation, on such terms and conditions as may from time to time be determined or prescribed, of a prize or prizes or other rewards or distinctions.
To consider all questions affecting the interests of the accounting, finance and related disciplines and to initiate, promote, watch over, consider and, if necessary to petition any organization, any person or Parliament and to organise deputations in relation to those issues.
Principal Activities: Conduct annual conference for members and leading academics/accountants and others.
For AFAANZ individuals undertaking their PhD studies - conduct annual doctoral consortium/colloquium in alternating years. Activity precedes the annual conference, each year.
Publish a research journal (tri-annual) which is distributed to members and libraries. Publish electronic newsletters (tri-annual) which is available via the web.
Advise educational, research and accounting bodies in the area of accounting, research and education.
Administer annual research grants for accounting, finance and business related research.
Administer scholarships for accounting, finance and business-related research.
Administer program whereby a leading academic travels to tertiary education institutions and advises on matters regarding academic concerns.
The Association’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of which there are five conduct seminars, forums and publish research journals/newsletters in hard copy and/or electronic version for distribution to members (and others) of these groups. The five groups are:
Accountability Interest Group (SIG1)
Accounting History Group (SIG2)
Accounting Standards Interest Group (SIG3)
International Accounting Group (SIG4)
Accounting Education Group (SIG5)
The committees of each of the Special Interest Groups, administer their own activities in accordance with the goals and objectives of AFAANZ.
