Description: The American Photographic Artists Guild (APAG) is an international organization comprised of professionals working in both traditional and digital environments. Its membership includes negative and print retouchers, colorists, restoration specialists, and digital artists; as well as photographers who want to remain informed on these subjects.
Founded in 1966 by a group of nineteen photographic color artists, the organization quickly grew and evolved, becoming highly respected and recognized within the photographic industry. APAG was instrumental in working with the Professional Photographers of America in developing professional standards for the industry, and in implementing the first national print competitions for its members' specialized disciplines.
As digital methods of retouching and imaging began to impact the field, APAG was at the forefront of educating members in the use of the new tools available with their conception and funding of the International Photographic Arts School, located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Today, APAG is the only internationally recognized organization of its kind that continues to meet the educational and networking needs of those working with traditional methods, as well as those on the cutting edge of digital technologies.
