Description: The Florida State Music Teachers Association is an organization whose members are professionally engaged in the teaching of music in the state of Florida and who have met certain membership requirements.
Mission/Aims: The primary purpose of FSMTA is the advancement of music in the state of Florida through excellent teaching, learning and performing which seeks to recognize individual achievement at all levels.
Principal Activities: Annual non-competitive student evaluations of music performance and music theory/musicianship.
State and national competitions.
Annual state conference.
Numerous opportunities for ongoing training and networking of music teachers through district and local associations.
Development of prospective music teachers through college chapters.

Verification Criteria: All members of FSMTA either have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in music or have successfully completed various requirements of provisional membership, including a personal examination and a demonstration of successful teaching.
Additional Information: FSMTA is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of music teaching. It serves all teachers engaged in studio teaching, including college and university teachers. Its aim is to serve both the profession and the public in the pursuit of excellence in music education.
