Description:

FLAG (Foreign Language Association of Georgia) is the official professional organization for foreign language teachers in Georgia. FLAG offers support for all levels of education from K-12 to university, for private as well as public schools.

Mission/Aims:

The purpose of FLAG shall be to promote and improve the teaching of classical and modern languages in the schools and institutions of higher education in the State of Georgia; to develop fellowship and esprit de corps among classical and modern foreign language teachers at all levels; and to foster international understanding and an appreciation of all languages and cultures, past and present.

Member Benefits:

Present and/or attend the annual FLAG conference – exchange ideas, attend workshops, earn PLU credits, learn new methods and approaches to teaching.

FLAG MS/HS Spoken Language Contests/FLES Spoken Language Contest – teachers’ students can participate yearly, teachers judge students from around the state.

The Fall Features Newsletter – Receive information about important dates for the upcoming school year, staff development opportunities, things happening around the state.

The FLAG Journal - Offers a professional journal to its members. The Journal publishes articles on pedagogy at the various grade levels, as well as research and reports on information pertinent to the membership. The Journal is beginning a peer-reviewed published article to be included each year. Members are encouraged to submit articles for publication.

Nominate colleagues for awards – Nomination information is available on the FLAG website and for the first time this year, there will be a stipend given for the Teacher/Professor of the Year and also for the Teacher of Promise

FLAG Website – Has the latest information available, including advocacy items, up-to-date conference information, etc.

FLAG provides a source of interaction and contact with colleagues and foreign language professionals at all levels of instruction.

Academic Alliances - Promotes collegiality between all levels of foreign language instruction and provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and practices.
