Description:

The Connecticut Council of Language Teachers (CT COLT) is a non-profit membership organization that promotes language proficiency and the knowledge of world cultures.

Mission/Aims:

CT COLT advocates world language learning for all students at all grade levels; supports teacher and student activities that demonstrate language teaching and learning; and recognizes the sucesses of teachers and students in world languages.

Principal Activities:

Annual Fall Conference, bi-annual Technology Conference, Rhyme Celebration for students in grades pre-K through 6, Poetry Recitation Contest for students in grades 7-12, Poster Contest for students in grades 1-12, Student Awards for Excellence in World Languages. CT COLT is a co-sponsor of French Day (Francofete). CT COLT also co-sponsors Immersion Workshops in conjunction with the CT World Language Resource Centers.

Scholarships: Irene Stanislawczyk Scholarship, French, Italian, Spanish Embassies' Scholarships.

CT COLT is an official provider of CEUs for the CT State Department of Education for professional development activities that the organization provides for its members.

World Language teachers in the State of Connecticut must have been granted a professional certificate/license to teach in public schools within the State of Connecticut.
