Description:

The Australian Kinesiology Association is a National Kinesiology body representing the professional interests of Kinesiology Practitioners, as well as the personal interests of students and the public. The AKA also has branch associations, which are local or state kinesiology associations that form out of local interests and needs.

The purpose of local branch associations is to keep local members up to date with news, class dates, events etc, and to hold meetings to formulate policy, promote kinesiology in their area or to raise extra funds. The AKA is managed by the National Committee (NC), which is comprised of delegates elected by and from each branch association.

Mission/Aims:

The AKA is a formally constituted organisation and as such has rules, regulations and guidelines for all kinesiologists, thereby offering a level of professionalism expected from any health professional body.

Principal Activities:

The AKA has subcommittees working with specific tasks:

The Australian Kinesiology Practitioner Registration Board (AKAPRB). This board sets standards and approves applications for the registration of kinesiologists. It liaises with and lobbies other organisations and Health Insurance companies.

The Australian Kinesiology Course Accreditation Board (AKACAB). This board accredits kinesiology courses to ensure that they meet the standards required for practitioner registration.
