Description:

The Australian Association of Career Counsellors is a national organisation of practitioners who provide careers services for people seeking to enter the workforce or change worklife direction. Our members work in education, employment, rehabilitation, human resources, government service, community settings and private practice.

Mission/Aims:

Promote the recognition and professionalism of career services.
Provide a professional forum to present a national voice on career policy and practice.

Provide a structure to support members in their professional activities and represent career services to the wider community.

Facilitate activities to improve members' professional standards and competencies.

Enhance the quality, content and nature of career services for the community.

Principal Activities:

To assist the development and education of members as professionals about the diverse and on-going nature of workplace change.

To promote career counselling as a profession.

To provide professional leadership in careers counselling to all members.

To act as a central reference point for members and other interested parties.

To represent career counsellors in economic, business, education and labour market forums.

To lobby and respond to government policy initiatives on behalf of members for such things as a high level of employment nationally, training for development of individual career potential, and the professional recognition of career counselling.

To promote research in, and evaluation and improvement of, career guidance materials, techniques and professional issues.

To present an annual National/International Career Development Conference, rotating around Australia, highlighting issues and approaches related to career development.
